The boys and I have been reading an exciting book for the last week.
written by Jamie Michalak based upon the motion picture screenplay and based on
the 2004 Newberry Award Winning book written by Kate DiCamillo.
It is a story about a young mouse named, Despereaux, who refuses to cower and be afraid of the world. He doesn't see himself as an extremely small mouse with very large ears, instead he sees himself like a storybook "knight". "Because sometimes" as the author states, "what someone looks like on the outside has nothing to do with what they're feeling on the inside". And when asked by the princess, "are you a rat?...a mouse?", Despereaux responds, "I am a gentleman". Despereaux wants a life based on chivalry, a code of honor, noble quests, duty and loyalty.
